The Audi R8 LMX edition is being touted as “the world’s first production car with laser high beams.” So what exactly does this mean for the driver? The high beams are automatically-activated, emitting white light at a color temperature of 5,500 Kelvin, thus enhancing the overall visibility and safety of the driver. Using four high-powered diodes and a camera-based system of sensors, the R8 LMX will detect other vehicles on the road and adjust the light appropriately.
In addition to its unique new lighting technology, this limited edition Audi features an “Ara Blue” exterior with a glossy black tailpipe, 19″ alloy wheels, and carbon fiber ceramic brake discs. For the interior you get a carbon fiber trim, nappa leather wrapping the seats, and an Alcantara headliner. Saving the engine for last, the Audi R8 LMX comes with a 5.2-liter V10 engine coupled with a seven-speed S tronic transmission and Quattro AWD. With it topping off at 199 mph, this baby will get you from 0 to 60 mph in around 3.4 seconds.
Only 99 production units of the Audi R8 LMX will be made and is set to debut this summer. You can pre-order now, but only if you have $289,000 to spend. Yikes!
