Sunday, December 13th, 2009HAHA. Okay so I was bored and hungover when I made this video. I think I found a cure for my hangovers though. Nothing like a little McDonald’s and Harry Potter.

Okay okay, so I know I’ve been gone for a bit and I’m sorry for that. I’m actually at work right now writing this post. I don’t have a computer at my apartment right now!!!! Ahhhhhh. I sold my MacPro in hopes my iMac would arrive soon. Boy was I wrong. Apparently because of the holidays the iMac 27″ is back ordered. Oh well I guess I’m going to be on a computer hiatus for a bit.
But wait, there’s more!!!!
I’m starting back on the p90x workout plan. Yes I know I’ve already done this but I’ve slacked a bit because of certain events that happened in my life. I was in the best shape of my life while I was doing the p90x workout so I’m siked to get started on it again. Also I am hoping to do the workout with a video log posted to my YouTube everyday!!! Yes very ambitious of me but I feel this is important for my followers and my fellow out of shape folk. The v-log (video blog) will show my hardships and results from the workout and any other updates I want to talk about. Sound good? Oh and I want people to comment and leave video responses on my YouTube videos. I’m hoping for an audience to follow my day to day diary.

Dining with Dogs Version 2
Friday, October 2nd, 2009
Okay so I know I’ve been absent and most posts haven’t been really personal but I’ll be back in action shortly. The reason of my absence is for a good cause. My good friend whom I met at my teaching gig has given me a chance to update her website to be somewhat similar to mine. When I say similar to mine I’m talking about it being database driven via Blogging Software. I’m SUPER excited for everyone to see the newly release of ‘Dining With Dogs.com‘. It should be completed rather soon so stay tuned. If you’re a dog lover or know of dog lovers please pass the site around. We both feel it’s important for there to be a dog friendly website out for all dog lovers. I really feel that the new website will open up so many doors for Liz.

Web directories and what they’re all about
Monday, September 14th, 2009
I’m asked quite often what a web directory is exactly. My first response is usually, “Your new best friend”. Think of it as a referral or simply your friends spreading your services via word of mouth. A Web Directory specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links. Don’t confuse it be a search engine. Although, you can compare the two and how they benefit your website. Having keywords and categorization will make it easier for a user to find your website via the directory. Imagine you where hosting a cooking blog that specialized in Italian food. Well the directory may be under the business web directory section. From that directory you’re able to research further and maybe narrow down what you’re looking for. For example…
(BUSINESS DIRECTORY > BLOG > COOKING > ITALIAN)
What I laid out above was a simple hierarchy of how someone may find your italian style cooking blog. Also Google or other great search engines like Yahoo will pick up off of the keywords. Now depending on how hot your website is currently will determine search engine placement. That is a tad bit of a different story.
The trick is to join many different web directories and do your research. What words are being searched most? What is the demand in your field? The key to success and becoming noticed on the web is 3 things. Well at least in my mind it’s 3.
- First is your content. If you can create unique content or even if you have something interesting to say its pretty obvious people will come back because of it. Think about the weekly paper. You think people subscribe and pay for something they could care less about?
- Second sort of revolves around the first but it’s something I usually teach as its own entity. I’m solely talking about your updating patterns. If your website isn’t updated frequently then why would anyone want to bother coming back? I sure as hell wouldn’t. I’ve actually taken websites I once admired off of my bookmarks simply because it wasn’t updated frequently enough. Content and consistency is key!
- Last but not least revolves back around to the beginning of this post. Web Directories! This isn’t the last because it’s the least important. I actually think this is probably one of the most important things you could do. It falls along the categories of SEO (search engine optimization). Anything you can do to be found, seen, or linked is vital.
