Will Facebook effect your career dreams?

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Does Facebook hinder your chances at a future career? Survey says….YES!

Think about all the things you may have said to a friend openly on Facebook. Just because your account may be private theirs may not. Having common sense and treating Facebook like you would a room full of people is important. In a crowded room the average person wouldn’t blurt out obscene things. This behavior should be mimicked online.

This post isn’t necessarily about Facebook but really more about Social Media. We’re being logged with every key stroke. Now employers have agencies that can research a potential new hire and see what their online personality is like. This can hurt you greatly and possibly hinder you any entry into your dream career.

So what does JoesDaily recommend besides common sense? Be more aware of your online presence. If you have a great urge to express yourself try to do it anonymously. Posting content on the web with your name on it can jump back and bite you in the butt.

Don’t believe me? Try Googling yourself to see what comes up. When you dig deep you might find something you said years ago and now regret. Always keep up to date with your online personality and never use the computer as shield.

iBooks. Something you may not know

Monday, April 5th, 2010

After opening up my iPad I was anxious to try all the features out. The one that gave me most interest was iBooks. Being able to read on the device was just an added bonus with all the other things it could do.

So at first glance the iBooks app has a lot of potential. Whether it’s reading a how to book or some vampire love story. What blew me away was the genius that was already inside. Winnie the Pooh. Such a classic book. I remember my mother reading this to me years ago. Apple made a smart choice providing a sample book with it’s free app. They really thought about their consumers needs. Not only does this cover the young but I’m sure parents appreciated it.

Now to explore the iBooks store. In just minutes you can purchase a best seller. From what I’ve seen the best sellers run around $9.99. What a great price. Many would say they like the feel of a book in their hands but I have to disagree. When I pick up my iPad, knowing I have 15+ books at my disposal in such a tiny machine makes my head explode. Yes Kindle by Amazon has done this already but Apple just did it better. Sorry Amazon.

Back to the iBook store. When you open the store you’ll notice something very similar to the App Store. Free and Paid items. Leave it to Apple to not only provide you with a classic like Winnie the Pooh but also others such as Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Peter Pan, and much more. FREE FREE FREE. I downloaded all of them instantly. When I say instant I’m not kidding. On a WiFi network the book downloads in a few seconds.

This is a home run for Apple yet again. I forever will be in debt because of Apple, but with a smile on my face.

ASU Undie Run

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Time and time again I have said I never went to the right school. I know you should never look back on what you did with regret because you are who you are currently because of all of your life experiences. Well in this specific circumstance I’m going to have to say that is not the case. I WISH I went to ASU college so I could have attended the annual undie run! I graduated 12 hour traffic school

Monday, April 13th, 2009

As you may already know I was in the progress of completing my 12 hour traffic school. Thankfully it was completed today! Brian Laughlin was awesome as usual. He was my teacher the first 8 hours and I was fortunate enough for him to be the teacher for my last 4. I once again want to recommend him to anyone that has to take traffic school classes.

2 classes down

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

OMG what a relief. I’ve finished 2 out of my 4 finals before I graduate. I’m sure I’ll be fine but it’s such a relief knowing that I won’t have to worry about those classes anymore. I cannot wait to finish the last 2. Wish me luck!

Scared for a Job

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Wow I really need to capitalize on something big so I can beat this economy. I read on a blog recently that MTV is having a HUGE downsize very soon. They canceled there big Christmas party that they have every year. The one ethical thing I could say about them is at least there not having that party after firing everyone. They have a heart possibly. This scares me overall because I can’t imagine how it’s going to be when I graduate and try to get a job.

The Art Institute of Los Angeles (santa monica)

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

My school has to be the dumbest school in the world, no wait the Universe. I’ve been here for 4 years and have been miserable the whole time. Most will ask why did you stay so long? My ownly response is I knew what I wanted to do and was too young and stupid to transfer to something else. The only thing I can say is that I’ve met some great people while I’ve gone here. This does not make up for all the stupid people that work there. The FINANCIAL SERVICES department has to be the rudest and most helpless department of them all. You go in there one week and struggle to get your loans in order and classes paid. Then after you finally get that shit settled you come back for a follow up and everything is fucked again. WOW, can you please shoot me? Theres this one idiot there that thinks he’s friggen Rico Suave. I just think, “dude you work at a financial center and it’s at an art school”. I mean if it was USC or UCLA I might see someone being cool, but AI? I’ve wanted to rip his fucking head off so much. I went in to get my last payment sent to me by check and because it was 4:25pm and he got off at 4:30pm he was bitching and moaning. OH I’M SORRY, do you have to get your ass eaten out by your girl? Oh and for those of you who are hoping to actually attend this school beware they LOVE to sell you on the schools…features??? Make sure to take out a HUGE loan to go to this school.
