The Kentucky Derby is right around the corner (May 6-7), and with that comes some of the finest spring fashion you have ever set your eyes on and, of course, Mint Julep cocktails. This year, PepsiCo is an official sponsor of the 2016 Kentucky Derby, and they have a special remix of the Derby’s classic Mint Julep. Find the recipe below:

Kentucky Derby ‘Lookout’ Recipe

Fun Fact: the ‘Lookout’ cocktail is named after the winning chestnut colt in the 1893 Kentucky Derby race.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz 1893 Ginger
  • 1 ¼ oz. Bourbon
  • Mint, muddled

Directions

Muddle mint and bourbon in a rocks glass. Add crushed ice and top with cola. Stir and garnish with additional mint.

I had the pleasure of attending the Belmont Stakes back in 2014, the third and final leg of the American Triple Crown.
