The Cognac Pen: A Gift For Someone Who Has Almost Everything
A little history here: the last time I wrote about a unique holiday gift for someone who has almost everything, was in 2010. It was the Porsche Design Advent Calendar, and it cost a million dollars USD. As of this writing, they are not selling those anymore. So what could you do now, for someone on your list who seems to have everything?
Elmo & Montegrappa is a high end writing instruments company who has, since 1912, been creating uniquely themed pens. They are located in Bassano Del Grappa, Italy, about an hour north of Venice. Montegrappa designs highlight famous authors, artists, and inventors. But the Cognac pen is a new direction for them – and the Cognac used in the pen is in the Wealth Solutions’ collection. It is historic alcohol, to say the least.
The liquor enclosed in the capsule, or ferrule, of the pen dates back to 1762 – a big year, not only for Cognac production, but for other important cultural events: the unveiling of the famous Trevi fountain in Rome, Catherine the Great becoming the Empress of Russia, and Jean- Jacques Rousseau’s publishing his Social Contract. It is unique idea to be able to see the drop of such history in a pen.
The Cognac fountain pen has been produced in a limited edition of 110 pieces (100 in silver, 10 in gold), exclusively for Wealth Solutions. The Cognac Pen can be filled with ink by a converter or a cartridge.
With Christmas, New Years, Hanukah, and only two months to go until Valentines’ Day, this might be a THE gift that will be remembered – especially when writing checks or signing over vast estate documents – for years to come.
The Gold Edition of the Cognac Pen costs $17,712
The Silver Edition costs $5,904
