The other day I was doing some DIY projects around the house and noticed a headache coming on. It was from the paint fumes coming from my freshly painted bathroom. Fortunately for me I had the new QuietClean Tower Air Purifier from Honeywell; unfortunately, I hadn’t unboxed it yet.

Within just a few minutes of turning it on my apartment started to smell fresh and clean. The QuietClean Tower uses Honeywell’s patented 3-step filtration system that captures up to 99% of the airborne allergens, like dust, tobacco smoke, pollen, pet dander, and in my case, fumes. It works by drawing in dirty air into its purifier and passing it through a pre-filter that traps the larger particles. Unlike most purifiers, the QuietClean’s permanent filters are easily to clean in water, saving you money on expensive replacements. However, if you’re looking for the added benefit of odor and VOC reducing filters, those will be sold seperately.

In case you didn’t know, VOC, short for Volatile Organic Compounds, are chemicals emitted as gases from certain liquids and solids. Because I was painting indoors – even with the windows open – the VOC levels were 10-times more intense than if I was painting outdoors, hence the headache I developed.

As you might have already assumed, inhaling VOCs is no good, especially for young children. The idea is to eliminate all VOCs in your household, whether it be by choosing new products that release  fewer VOCs or using an air purifier. In my opinion both options are worthy of looking into.

In just a few days of using the Honeywell QuietClean Tower Air Purifier it became clear how much I needed it. Just walking into my apartment I noticed the crispness of the air, unlike the stale smell I usually had coming from my garbage. My girlfriend and I are very clean, but because we cook so much we tend to have items that go in the trash and spoil unless we empty it immediately. The air purifier took care of this.
