Now be introduced to the BMW X4: the first sports activity coupe (SAC) in the premium compact crossover class. Available as of July 2014, this vehicle takes the innovative vehicle design of the X6 one step further. The X4 is essentially a sports car, SAV, and coupe all in one. On the outside, it looks almost exactly like a BMW sedan, with the wide track, low center of gravity and pronounced wheel arches that enable its fantastic road handling. However, once inside the car you notice it’s unexpectedly large and sporty, with seats only 20 and 28 millimeters lower than the X3, and a sport leather steering wheel with shift paddles.

Some of the features all BMW X4 models are equipped with include:

  • Eight-speed Steptronic Transmission
  • Park Distance Control, or PDC, to help with parking
  • Automatic Tailgate with the option to add no touch operation
  • Six engines– three petrol and three diesel— giving the BMW X4 a fuel economy that would have been unthinkable for a vehicle its size just a few years ago
  • Control elements angled towards the driver for improved ergonomics
  • Carve cloth/leather upholstery in Black/Amber and contrasting seams
  • xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system and Performance control that, when combined, make BMW’s trademark all-conditions steering precision even better than before
  • ConnectedDrive for safety, convenience, and entertainment

Of course, should you wish for more, the xLine and M Sport packages have even greater features to offer.

I had the opportunity to test-drive the BMW X4 xDrive35i while in Berlin this August. This particular X4 was in Melbourne metallic and equipped with Sport Automatic Gear Steptronic as well as the M Sport Package with all available ConnectedDrive Features.
