Back in the 19th century, a pocket chronometer was not just a tool for captains, but a show of rank worn on shore and off. Ulysse Nardin’s pocket chronometers were among the most sought after. Because of their popularity by naval officers and merchant captains, the Marine Chronometer was born, and to-date, one of their most iconic collections.

As the role of a captain has changed, so has the role of watchmaker. Though, Ulysse Nardin has never strayed too far away from their beginnings. Their newest generation of chronometer: the Ulysse Nardin Marine Torpilleur, is merely a modern timepiece designed for those looking to captain their own destiny. Sound like someone you might know? I’m looking at you!

What’s Inside

Named after the smaller, more nimble ships of the earlier era, the Marine Torpilleur is a lighter, thinner version of Ulysse Nardin’s iconic Marine Chronometer. And like its inspiration, the Marine Torpilleur is powered by a self-winding in-house UN-118 movement, as well as the same 60-hour power reserve and proprietary Silicium anchor escapement. Additionally, it’s C.O.S.C-certified (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres), which gives it the official Chronometer stamp of approval and worthy of Ulysses Nardin’s Performance Certificate. This makes it ideal for the modern adventurer and long time loyal Ulysse Nardin customer, who expects the same craftsmanship and performance from the Swiss watchmaker with every purchase.

Marine Torpilleur Exterior

The working parts of the Marine Torpilleur is impressive, as is all of Ulysses Nardin’s watches. But for me, the real beauty is on the outside. Starting off with the dial: large Roman numeral indexes, redesigned hands to the shape of a Marine timepiece, and the dashing red “1846” inside the seconds hand. Too perfect!
