I had no idea Jim Carrey was an artist, and a talented one to boot. In the documentary, ‘I Needed Color,’ Carrey explains how he found his new love of painting while attempting to mend his broken heart after a bad breakup. As he explains in the doc: “I like the independence of it. I love the freedom of it. No one else tell you what you can or can’t do, most of the time.”

I suppose his talent shouldn’t come as a surprise. Many comedians have hobbies that stretch far outside their celebrity, and painting is the perfect escape for a comedic genius like Carrey. You have to admire how he explains his pieces, particularly ‘Electric Jesus’: “I wanted you to have the feeling when you looked into his eyes, that he was accepting of who you are. I wanted him to be able to stare at you, and heal you from the painting.”
