As Punxsutawney Phil informed us not two weeks ago, winter is still here. And, despite the constant threat of the weather deciding on a whim to test our limits, I’m choosing to look at that as a good thing. Why? Because along with the ice and snow that come with this debatably horrible time of year comes one of my favorite things, seasonal beer.

For those that feel the same way, and also happen to be fans of coffee, Elysian Brewing’s Split Shot Stout is definitely one to have on the radar. It’s an espresso milk stout that “combines the local talents of Elysian Brewing and Stumptown Coffee in a deliciously smooth, very Northwest beer.” Yes, I said “Stumptown,” so you know it’s going to be good. The brew is a blend of cold-infused espresso, Magnum hops, and milk sugar, resulting in the perfect mix of strong and sweet.

Elysian Brewing Split Shot Stout is available yearly, January through March. Check their website to find it at a store or bar near you.
